On Mentoring

The mission of the Platt Lab extends beyond making scientific discoveries. We seek to help every member of the laboratory reach their full potential and become a leader in science, medicine, or biotechnology. This means learning not only how to perform exceptional research, but also how to identify important problems, build compelling scientific visions, communicate ideas effectively, and inspire others to pursue ambitious goals.
We believe that the best mentorship combines intellectual freedom with thoughtful guidance. Every member of the laboratory is encouraged to develop expertise in a distinct area, challenge conventional thinking, and pursue ideas that have the potential to reshape our understanding of biology. By cultivating curiosity, creativity, integrity, and excellence, we hope to prepare the next generation of scientists to make discoveries that improve human health and to mentor the generations that follow.
